Its so hot! :-) Which means.....I can read outside! *Ahhhhhhh* Today for Catch that Character I'm going to interview one of my favourite ever characters from a book I read recently, here is this weeks CTC.....

Catch the Cover is my new Page-turner feature! It is were every Thursday, I make up a 'fake' interview with one of my favourite book characters so you get to know why I love them! Since this feature is new, I really want to know what you think about it, please comment! B>

SPOILERS?- THIS INTERVIEW DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY MAJOR SPOILERS, BUT HAS A FEW REFERENCES THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE HAD TO READ THE BOOK TO UNDERSTAND.

When Facebook closed down in the end, how did you feel?

Surprised, and sought of relieved. I think I was so frustrated and hung up on what my future would be like, I kept on changing it and I actually think if I had just left things, my future would have probably turned out better than I thought it would be. So I think now Facebook is gone, I can concentrate on the present and just see what happens in the future.

How would people describe you?

I think my friend, Hellan, would describe me as not very daring and I'm quite quiet, but inside I'm really...

loud!

If you could bring back Facebook, would you?

Umm........Its a really hard question and I think it depends. How everything ended with me and Josh, I think it changed things really dramaticlly, and so even though I'm curious to see it what happens next, I don't think I would bring back Facebook. I think the future is better left...In the future!

What are your likes and dislikes?

I think running, reading, (lots of magazines!) shopping and hanging out with friends.I'm not much of a party animal though, and I now dislike Cody. (not that I liked him like, 2 days ago or anything....:-)

And lastly, what do you think will happen in the future?

I've been thinking this to myself for the whole week! I really don't know. I think that the futures me and Josh thought we had have been altered because of what recently happened. I keep on asking myself; when I actually am an adult and Facebook has been created, will I remember this happened?

And me and Josh?....... ;-)

Interview with author, Joanna Nadin!

Merry Wednesday! Today I am so happy to welcome the brilliant author, Joanna Nadin!!.....

She has written more than 14 published books and is the best-selling author of the Rachel Riley series. Joanna Nadin is also author of one of my favourite ever books, Paradise! Here is an interview with the awesome author herself!...

Firstly, can you tell us a bit about you and your books?

I write all sorts, from the Penny Dreadful books for younger readers to the hugely comic Rachel Riley teen series to dark, young adult novels.

Why did you start writing?

I didn’t start as much as realise I was already doing it. I’d been a journalist in TV and radio, then a campaigns writer for the government, working on speeches and parliamentary scripts. Then, in the summer holidays, with nothing to do, I decided to carry on writing, just in a very different genre. And I still write speeches now. I hate a day when I don’t get to write something.

I LOVE paradise, how did you come up with the story-line?

This came from sitting on Loe Bar in West Cornwall on a hot summer’s day, wanting to swim, but knowing the undertow there is far too strong. (The book’s original title was undertow). At the same time I was dealing with a friend’s depression which I felt was not dissimilar to an undertow – no matter how hard you swim, like your past, like depression, it catches you and pulls you under.

Is anybody else in your family a writer/journalist/author?.....

My brother was a newspaper journalist for a few years, and my Great Great Great Great Grandfather was the novelist William Makepeace Thackeray.

What do you

think is the worst thing you could possibly do when writing a book?

Stop. Even if you think you can’t come up with anything that day, just write anyway. You can always go back and change it later. That or switch on daytime television.

If you hadn't become an author, what would you want to be?

A figure skating champion.

What genre would you class your books in?

I write in pretty much every genre: comedy, thriller, tragedy. Not fantasy though. I don’t do trolls or vampires.

Why do you write for a teenage audience?

Because that’s the time when your emotions are at their rawest, and the possibilities in life are endless. It’s a time of incredible hope and yawning disappointment. The best time, and the worst.

I absolutely LOVE all your books covers, did you imagine them to look like they do?

I didn’t. I am hopeless at drawing or designing. I’m so hugely happy that someone else can come up with such beautiful ideas instead.

Are there any tips you would give to young, aspiring authors?

Keep a diary. Everything, even the horrible stuff, is material for a book. Plus the act of writing every day is great practice.

Top Ten books I'd save if my house was abducted by aliens

Merry Tuesday! One day closer to Friday............ (were I can read all night!) Anyway, as you can tell from the title of this post..I am doing a new blog meme on Page-turner! A few weeks ago I put up a poll saying; "What new weekly meme should I take part in?" and the post popular was... TOP TEN TUESDAY! Top Ten Tuesday looks like a really fun meme to take part in, and today I'm going to do my first post. It is hosted at the Broke and Brookish and it is were every Tuesday they will put up a Top Ten List which they and we can answer!

Top Ten books I'd save if my house was abducted by aliens:

The Hunger games by Suzanne Collins #1- This is one of the best books I've ever read-It was AM-a.m.a.z.i.n.g!!, but I don't think it would last that long as it is falling apart...because so many people have read (and loved!) it!

Heist Society by Ally Carter- Why can't I be Kat?! This book was brilliant, it was so awesome!- Told from the view points of a teenage thief, this book was amazing!...

Frankie Foster #1 (Fizzy Pop) by Jean Ure- I got sent Fizzy Pop by fantastic author, Jean Ure and was my first review copy! ;)

Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes-I think this was one of my first paranormal books, and this book is the reasons I like paranormal books now!

Torn by Cat Clarke-This is the book I always recommend to people!

Virals by Kathy Reichs- I loved this book! I would get so into it, I could probably manage to forget my house was being taken over my aliens....! ;)

The truth about Celia Frost by Paula Rawsthorne- Celia is one of my favourite main characters, I could relate to her and The Truth about Celia Frost was such an awesome book :-)

The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler-I would never get bored of this book, definitely a book I could read over and over again!!

Thirteen Reasons why by Jay Asher- This was such a sad book! Even though it would make me feel even more upset that my house was being abducted (by aliens!..) I loved this book so much!

Sister,Missing by Sophie McKenzie- I loved Sister,Missing and it is also one of my only signed books! :-)

The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler

Its 1996 and few people have used the interview, and Facebook will not be invented for another eight years.

Josh and Emma have been neighbors their whole lives. They've been best friends almost as long - at least, up until last November, when Josh did something that changed everything. Things have been weird between them ever since, but when Josh's family gets a free AOL CD in the mail,his mom makes him bring it over so that Emma can install it on her new computer. When they sign on, they're automatically logged onto their Facebook pages. But Facebook hasn't been invented yet. And they're looking at themselves fifteen years in the future.

Everyone wonders what their future will be.

Josh and Emma are about to find out.

My Review

I have been wanting this book for age and I was so SO happy when I got it! 1996 was a few years before I was born and I wanted to know what teenagers were like then, and I was also intrigued by the unusual writing style-Jay Asher wrote Josh's narratives and Carolyn Mackler wrote Emma's. It was also a really unique storyline! :-)

Josh and Emma had been friends for ages, up until last November when Josh tried to kiss her. In the begining, when Emma and Josh discovered Facebook, I think they found out about Facebook to fast, as they found out about it in the first or second chapter.

I found myself thinking "who's narrative did I like more" as they were both written by different authors. I think both authors have a similar writing style, and they worked together really well. Overall, if I had to choose it would probably be Emma because I could relate to her more. But I loved how both narratives were written, this book was awesome! :-) And how pretty is the cover?! I love The Future of Us cover, and it fits really well with the story. I don't think this book had any jaw-dropping surprises, but it was a funny, realistic page turner...I loved it!

Each and every character added to the story, one of my favourite characters was Hellan, Emma's best friend. The characters were well-developed and each had unique, awesome personalities that bough the book together. The Future of Us had a lot of references to popular bands, TV shows in 1996 etc.. that, because I wasn't born in 1996, I didn't know about which confused me sometimes, but overall this was a funny, awesome light romance that I really enjoyed, Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler....please write a sequel!

I think the ending was quite predictable, but the whole story was still a build up and when I finished the book and closed it, I was so upset it ended! It felt like I had really really gotten into Emma and Josh's world, The Future of Us is a must read. I think this would make a perfect movie and I think had all the elements a great light romance could have. It was funny, entertaining and kept me hooked until the end. :)

Summary: A light romance with an awesome story-line. I LOVE the characters and The Future Of Us

is a must read. Some of it was quite predictable but I really enjoyed it, I really hope there will be a sequel!

Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

There's only one problem - it's the wrong twenty-four hours.

My Review

I was so excited to start reading this book, It sounded amazing and I also absoloutly loved the cover (I spent at least 10 minutes looking at it!), but when I started reading, It was hard to understand as sometimes I didn't get what was happening and it was quite hard to get into, but as I carried on reading It got better and better and by the end I thought to myself.....

What was I thinking?! This book was amazing.

Kali is a normal teenage girl for twenty-four hours, and for the other twenty-four hours...she's not. She hunts Hellhounds, kills zombies and trys and protects the other humans from other dangerous species, which in this dark-future set book, are real. Overall, this book was just awesome! :-) I couldn't put it down.

I loved the way Kali narrates the book. She was funny, raw and real and she made this dystopian read completely believable! :) I loved all the different characters in this book. Their personalities were all distinctive and I loved how each character played a huge part in the story. At first, I thought this book might be a romance but it actually isn't, this book really surprised me, I loved it!

At the beginning I thought it was slow to start off with, but I realised it was building up as there was a big twist in the plot halfway through the book that I would never have guessed! There were loads of twists and turns in this story, and I didn't find any predictable. At one point I was nearly crying, and I was thinking "What, NO?!!" so many times in this book. I really enjoyed Every Other Day.

It was action-packed and had such brilliant characters! I didn't think I liked paranormal books, but this book has completely changed my mind, I'm praying for a sequel!....

So many things happened in Every Other Day and it is such a well-written book. Even though it took me a few chapters to get into, it was one of the most original books I've ever read!

I also absolutely love LOVED the ending. It was so sad and I think it really pulled together the book. This would be a perfect movie! I didn't want this book to end!

Rated: 9.5/10

Summary: At the beginning I found some parts hard to understand but this book was a brilliant read and was full of amazing twists and turns, it was powerful and a complete page turner. Every Other Day is a paranormal thriller that kept me hooked and had an amazing ending.

Catch That Character #5

Happy Thursday! :) I hope your all having a great week! And as it's Thursday, (only 4 more days left of half-term?!) It's time for this weeks...Catch That Character!

As for the past few weeks of CTC's I have been doing characters from the same books, I thought I would do a completely different character., Its....

CLAY FROM 13 REASONS WHY!

SPOILERS?- THIS INTERVIEW DOES CONTAIN SPOILERS AND HAS LOTS OF REFERENCES THAT WILL REQUIRE HAVING READ THE BOOK TO UNDERSTAND.

How did you react when you heard Hannah Baker, your classmate, died?

I really didn't believe it. Even though I didn't know Hannah that well, when she died it seemed like I had lost a really really close friend. I felt terrible and I will never forgive myself for letting it happen, because I realise now I could have stopped it.

Why did you think you received the tapes that Hannah recorded, as you were only supposed to get them if you were one of the reasons she killed herself?

I really didn't know. I think the other 12 people that got the tapes probably though the same thing; "I don't know why I got these, what did I do?!" But when you listen, you realise even though it didn't seem big to you what you did to Hannah, it was big to her and all the little things built up into a very big thing.

If you could go back in time, what would you do differently?

I would have not have walked away when she told me to, as that could have been the only time I could have saved her. And just overall, even though I didn't know she was going to kill herself, I should have known and that is my biggest regret, what I wish so badly I could change.

How would your friends and family describe you?

They would probably describe me as quiet, shy, and not very...party-ish of that makes sense! My family?...probably the same!

What would you say to the person you sent the tapes onto?

I don't think I would say anything. The tapes explain enough, and once you have listened to them, you feel this weight on your back that you have to pass it onto to someone. So by passing on the tapes, 13 lives will be affected.

Valentines day special guest post!

First off I would just like to thank the lovely, Beth for letting me guest post on her blog. Page-turner is one of my favourite book blogs and it is a real privilege!

Today I want to talk about some of my favourite romance books. I feel that romance can either make or break a book – in my opinion if it's too light, it's boring but too much, it's soppy. Yeah, you could say I'm quite particular.
Now, on to the books!

Dark Touch Novels by Amy Meredith:
I really like the romance in these novels because it's quite a sweet, first-love, teenage romance. Shadows (Book #1) is also got a little romantic twist because the main character, Eve... oh no I don't want to ruin it because it is an absolutely amazing book so I think I'll give you a blurb just to tempt you. I made it up myself so it doesn't ruin it all too much:
Eve Evergold is a typical fifteen year old girl. She loves shoes, purses, make up, fashion magazines and boys, so when two new mysterious boys arrive at her school, how can she resist? Not soon after, strange events start to occur in her town. Then she discovers she has supernatural powers and she will need to use them to defeat someone dangerous... Could it be someone she knows, someone she might even be attracted to?

Reckless Magic by Rachel Higginson:
I like the romance in this novel because it is more soul-mates and the supernatural power of love. I also love this book too! The plot is really brilliant and enjoyable, and the romance part of it just fits right in and makes the book an overall more enjoyable read!
16 year old Eden Matthews has been in and out of private schools for the last two years. She can't seem to stop herself from closing them down. Kingsley is her last chance to finish high school and the last private school willing to accept her. She is focused on just getting through graduation until she realizes Kingsley is not like the other private schools she's been to. The students may be different, but so is she. And after meeting Kiran Kendrick, the boy who won't leave her alone and seems to be the source of all of her problems, she is suddenly in a world that seems more make-believe than reality. To top it off, she is being hunted by men who want to kill Kiran and her best friend Lilly is taken away to a foreign prison. Eden finds herself right in the middle of an ancient war, threatening everything she loves. She alone has to find a way to save her best friend and the boy who has captivated her heart. Reckless is an intricate story about mystery, adventure, magic and forbidden love. Eden Matthews is an unlikely heroine determined to save the world and be with her one, true love before it's too late.

The Wings Series by Aprilynne Pike:
I feel I ought to mention these books because they include a love triangle. Out of Tamani and David, I am definitely Team Tamani all the way! The final book, Destined is coming out this year and I can't wait to find out who Laurel chooses. If it's not Tamani, I really will cry! It can get a little soppy though but it's still got a great plot and great characters so they're still worth reading! I'll give you a tester of these books by giving you Book #1, Wing's, synopsis:
Laurel discovers she is a faerie, sent among humans to protect the gateway to Avalon. Thrust into the midst of a centuries-old battle between faeries and trolls, she's torn between a human and a faerie love, as well as her loyalties to each world. In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

Under The Never Sky by Veronica Rossi:
I also really want to mention the book I'm reading right now, Under The Never Sky. I'm not finished it yet but I've read enough to know I like the romance in it, the classic hate-to-love.
Aria has lived her whole life in the protected dome of Reverie. Her entire world confined to its spaces, she's never thought to dream of what lies beyond its doors. So when her mother goes missing, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland long enough to find her are slim.
Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He's searching for someone too. He's also wild - a savage - but might be her best hope at staying alive.
If they can survive, they are each other's best hope for finding answers.

*Hi Luisa!*

Hello!

Firstly, can you tell us a bit about you and your books?
Sure! I've always loved reading and writing, and I grew up speaking Italian and English which I think is what made me so interested in language. This led to me studying Linguistics and working on dictionaries, television subtitling and language software, while always dreaming of being a writer.

Eventually I took the plunge and submitted a manuscript I'd written about an English girl going to live in the States and finding that her accent changes everything, to the point where she literally becomes two people and lives her life in two different ways. I was thrilled when this novel sold to Random House and became Split by a Kiss. My other books have followed from this, really. I write about teenagers and relationships, and my style is light-hearted and (hopefully) fun.

Why do you write for a teenage audience?

It's a fascinating, exciting time in life, when so many possibilities are open to you and anything could happen. I adore reading fiction for teenagers, so writing it feels natural.

People say your books are Chic-lit romance novels, why did you decide to write in that genre?
As above, really. These are the books I most like to read, and have done since I was about ten years old! I love this type of fiction and the way it addresses themes of developing identities and coming-of-age. I also like the way it talks about 'firsts', including first love.

In the next book you write, what would you maybe call the characters?

It's still a work in progress, but I can tell you that the main character of the book I'm working on at the moment is called Demi...

What is the hardest thing about writing a book?

I think it's dealing with the fact that the utterly shiny book I've dreamed up in my imagination never pours itself perfectly and effortlessly onto the page. Those pesky words always sound better in my head!

Was it hard to choose the names for your books? Why did you call them what you did?

I always start with a working title, which publishers often have good reason to change. My publisher, Random House, came up with the title 'Split by a Kiss' for my first novel, and we decided from that point that my titles would all contain some form of the word 'kiss'. 'Extreme Kissing' was the working title of that book and it was kept, which I was slightly surprised about, but it really fits with the themes of risk-taking in the book. Swapped by a Kiss is a companion novel to Split by a Kiss, so it had to match, and as it's about a body swap, it was actually my easiest book to name. Kiss Date Love Hate went through a few title changes, but eventually we settled on a title that reflected some of the options of the magical game - and rhymed!

Is there anybody else in your family that is an author/journalist/writer?

My partner is a journalist, and my mother is brilliant at speaking different languages, if that counts!

Do you want any of books to be turned into a movie, and if so which one in particular?

Ooh, I'd love to see any of them made into movies! In my wildest dreams, I can imagine Split by a Kiss and Swapped by a Kiss as Hollywood-style teen movies, and I see Extreme Kissing as a grittier, more down-to-earth British film. I haven't yet pictured a movie version of Kiss Date Love Hate, which is ironic considering it's a book about filmmaking!

And lastly, what's your favourite thing about Valentines day?!I think it's the new special Lush products that always come out. (This year I am loving these)

My Review

Warning!: Do not read this book in the dark. I am still paying for it with freaky nightmares!

I was so happy when I received this book, I've been wanting to read for ages and I loved the phrase; "A lot can happen in 11 minutes," at the front. When I started Fracture, I expected a hooking, and straight to the point first sentence. And of course, the first sentence was, "The first time I died, I didn't see God". I loved this and was immediately hooked.

17 Delaney is pulled out of a lake in Maine after spending 11 minutes underwater. Everybody thinks she's dead and her heart has stopped beating. However, she opens her eyes and has recovered. Despite supposedly having brain-damage, she is absolutely fine. This is such a scary story, and when reading it, it sent shivers down my spine.

The beginning was really awesome, I seriously couldn't put this book down! A few chapters in though, It began to seem quite similar to other books I've read, I thought it would go on like that for the rest of the book and I was really disappointed, but I was so wrong! Literally, it lasted for about a chapter and then the book was even more amazing than before, this was defiantly a worthwhile read.

Delaney narrates the story amazingly and you could feel every little bit of her emotion through the story which made her easy to emphasise with. How did the author write such a spellbinding novel?! There were so many characters in the story, that at first seemed like minor characters, but actually bought the whole story together in the end. I didn't want to tear my eyes away from this book when I finished it, and it took about 15 minutes for me to snap out of Fracture-mode!

This book is defiantly a heart-stopping thriller, romance and a bit of paranormal. I really enjoyed this amazing read,...I will defiantly be reading more of Megan Miranda's books!

Fracture portrayed what it really would be like to be in Delaney's situation. This book so meaningful, I just can't find the words to describe how much it was!! I think this is one of my favourite books of 2011, the power of how thought-provoking Fracture was is sensational. It was such a vivid book, the poignancy was something like I've never read before, I LOVED it.

Happy Thursday! :-) I hope your having a great week! I was up until midnight last night reading and so I'm SO SO tired! (Uh and we have P.E today...!) But its time for Thursdays weekly feature, Catch That Character!....

Today I've done an "Interview" with one of my favourite book characters. Even though I know I've already done a character from Virals, I just couldn't resist!.....

The interview is with....

HI FROM VIRALS AND SEQUEL, SEIZURE!

Hi (Hiram) is one of my favourite books characters ever! I hope you enjoy the interview!....

SPOILERS?- THIS INTERVIEW DOES NOT CONTAIN SPOILERS, HOWEVER IT DOES HAVE MINOR REFERENCES THAT MIGHT REQUIRE HAVING READ THE BOOKS.

Firstly, how would people describe you?

I think my Mom would describe me as her "little baby boy Hiram" (even though I have had a slight increase of um, weight) and my friends call me Hi, the boy who never likes to run, hike, jump, so yes, even though (mostly because of Tory!) I have to run a lot,...I do NOT do it for pleasure!

In your group of "Virals," who do you think is the group leader?

We don't really have an official group leader. Tory is the one with most of the ideas (that we always end up doing no matter what) Ben is the one with the physical strength (and VERY bad temper) Shelton can pick locks which comes in VERY handy and he is also a computer-hacking wiz. I um, supervise (I'm usually the one that goes with one of Tory's crazy ideas first!)

Where is your favourite place?

Easy. Loggherhead Island!-Loggerhead is were me, Tory, Shelton and Ben all hang out. Its been there for about forever and its where we can all practice our flaring.

Do you think your abilities will be permanent?

I really don't know. And I don't know if I want them to go or not either. Even though having the abilities requires a lot of sneaking around, and we all (The Virals) have to be more careful than we used to have to be, its also quite cool. Especially as we keep on going on loads of crazy adventures, and the powers help us.....A LOT!

And lastly, what do you think will happen next in your scary, slightly-crazy, adventurous life?

I have no idea! But Tory's the one that come's up with the ideas, Tory's the one that drives us all crazy with her ideas, and she's the one that usually succeeds in the idea and so I have 3 words for you; Just ask Tory.

My Review

WOW. WOW. OH MY GOD. WOW.

Seizure. Seizure. Seizure. Where do I start? This book has everything you'd ever want. It was an action-packed thriller full of twists and turn that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was a modern-day pirate legend and so much more!

Seizure is the sequel to the phenomenal Virals.When I first started Seizure, I was thinking to myself "should I?" because even though Kathy Reichs is an absolute amazing writer, I thought that maybe I shouldn't read Seizure as Virals was just so amazing. Now I'm thinking, HOW COULD I HAVE EVER THOUGHT THAT?! :-) Seizure was slightly harder to into than Virals, but honestly, it was one of the most brilliant books I'v ever read!

Tory and her friends, Hi, (Hiram) Shelton and Ben are all The Virals. A group of teenagers with special abilities. I got to know each and every character so easily in the first book (Virals) and I got to know and love them all even more in Seizure! Each personality grew on me a lot, I'd love to be a Viral!

Kathy Reich's, as well as being an absolute fantastic author, is also a top Forensics expert! Whenever Tory (the main character) was talking about anything science-y, you could tell the author was an expert, but this story was SO SO SO (X10000!) not boring! This is a gripping, sci-fi novel that is now one of my favourite books of all time. :-)

Tory Brennan narrates the story and I couldn't imagine anyone else doing it. Her narratives are funny, real and just fantastic. It feels like Tory is actually talking to you, she is the type of character you can empathise and get to know easily. I didn't want this book to stop!

The front cover of Seizure is also awesome! There is a picture of the four "Virals" in the middle, usually I don't really like book covers with models on, but I really liked this one! It was interesting to see what the author imagined them to look like, and for me they looked exactly like how I'd imagined them! #

There were a LOT of new characters introduced, which I really liked. I thought one thing about a character, and then they did something, and I was so frustrated! (in a good, book-ish way!) It was one of the most un-predictable books I've ever read!

This was an amazingbrilliantfantasticawesomegreatx10000 book! And.....

The 3rd book, CODE, Is out in later this year!!

I completely recommend this heart-stopping, action packed read.

Interview with author, Hilary Freeman!!

I am so excited to welcome the amazing author.... Hilary Freeman!! Hilary has written the brilliant Camden Town Tales and other awesome books such as Lifted and Loving Danny. She is also an agony ant....AND journalist! Thank you so much Hilary for the interview!

*Hi Hilary!*

Firstly, can you tell us a bit your books?

I've had five books published:

The first, Loving Danny, is about a girl on her gap year, who falls in love with a mysterious musician, who turns out to be very troubled. It's about first love and learning that you can't change people.

The second, Don't Ask, is about a girl who creates a false identity on a social networking site, in order to befriend her boyfriend's ex and find out the answers to her questions about him. She gets in deeper than she expects...

Lifted tells the story of a compulsive shoplifter who gives everything she steals to charity shops and blogs about it. She loves the fame it brings but revealing her true identity will mean getting caught. These books are for older teens.

The next two, The Celeb Next Door and Stuck on Me, are part of my Camden Town Tales series, which is slightly younger and lighter. I'm currently working on the third. The books are about a group of friends who all live in Camden Town, and their relationships and adventures. In The Celeb Next Door, a famous drummer moves in next door to Rosie and she goes out of her way to befriend him, with unexpected results. Stuck on Me is Sky's story, in which she deals with an obsession with her nose and her decision to track down her absent dad.

Why did you decide to call your books what you did?

Loving Danny does what it says on the tin: it's about falling in love with a guy called Danny. It was part of the Piccadilly Love Stories series, and my publisher asked me to choose a title with 'love in it'.

I chose 'Don't Ask' because I wanted something intriguing... In the book, my main character asks too many questions and in a way in which she shouldn't, so it's a warning.

Lifted has a double meaning. It refers both to the shopLIFTING and to the high she gets when she steals.

The Celeb Next Door is another literal title, which describes what happens in the story.

Finally, Stuck on Me is a play on words. Instead of Stuck on You - which means being in love with someone - Sky's nose is stuck on her face (as noses are), and she's stuck with it - she can't get rid of it. And, in the end, she decides to stick with it too.

What is the best thing and worst thing about being an author?

The best thing about being an author? There's so many! I love writing the books (most of the time, when it flows) and creating the characters, I love seeing my finished books , I love getting feedback from readers and meeting them. It just feels like I'm doing what I've always wanted to do and am meant to do. It's very fulfilling.

The worst thing is the isolation. Writing a novel means lots of time alone, with just my laptop. Sometimes, it gets lonely.

Out of all of your book characters, which one would you like to meet most?

Probably Noah, the main male character in Lifted. He's just a really lovely, kind, intelligent guy - the 'nerd' who turns out to be very noble. I loved writing him and getting into his head and other people have told me they really like him too. I have met guys like Danny in Loving Danny in the past - and fallen in love with them - but that always turned out to be a mistake!

When writing a book, how many chapters do you think you write through-out one week?

I fit in my novel writing around my work as a journalist and agony aunt. I try to write a chapter every week, but it doesn't always work out that way. On a good writing day, I can write a whole chapter.

When you first walked into a bookshop and saw your book there, how did you react?

It was an amazing feeling- really exciting! I wanted to go out into the street and tell everyone. I remember getting the first copies of Loving Danny and not being able to stop looking at them. There's something great about the smell of brand new books too.

Have you ever had "writers block" when writing one of your books?

I've never had 'writer's block' but I do have days when my writing just doesn't flow, whatever I do. When that happens, I try to write anything: a conversation from later in the book, for example, just so I have some words down on paper. I don't always write in sequence. And if the writing really doesn't want to come, I stop beating myself up and do something else instead, until I get back in the mood.

Which book took you the longest to write?

Probably Lifted because it's structurally the most complicated, with first person blogs and third person chapters, told from different points of view.

Who encouraged to keep writing a book, and not give up?

My husband was my biggest supporter, telling me I could do it and encouraging me to keep on going when I lacked confidence. But we're not together anymore! So now, I guess, it's the readers, who like my books and keep saying they want more.

If you were stuck in a burning building and only had time to rescue one of your books, which would it be?

I think it would be Lifted again. I think it's my best book, with the most interesting plot. But now I have a kindle, I could rescue all of my books together!

Happy Thursday! Yes, its so nearly Friday! I am writing (well, typing!) this whilst wearing my ugg slippers and thick dressing gown! And I'm still frozen, can someone help me defrost my hands?! Anyway, onto Page-turner weekly Thursday feature, Catch That Cover!....

How does it feel like having two sisters, rather than having one like you used to?

I REALLY don't like Lauren! If Lauren had been a bit more like me and not STOLEN MY OTHER SISTER TO HERSELF (Madison) then maybe we'd get along better but I really dont know.

Do you wish you had got to know Lauren a bit better?

Yes.I do. We were getting a bit closer, that night, but now its to late....

How would people describe you?

My family would describe me as moody (Lauren) but my friends,-probably as

(sometimes) funny and sarcatsic.

why did you used to bully Madison?

I didn't bully her! She can't take a joke! And if I had hurted her, I would'v stopped but of course Lauren

just had to come into the scene and turn Madison against me. But I love Madison, I wish that I hadn't done what I did....

After what happened, what 3 things do you wish you had done, as now you don't have the chance to?

I wish I had treated Mum better, I realise now I was horrible to her, and now I can't fix it...

I wish I was nicer to Madison, and gotten to know Lauren. And mostly.....

I wish I had been nicer and just overall, been more in life. When I was actually alive, I never really thought about death, if it crossed my mind it seemed like a million years away...but I wish I had done more in my life.

Paradise by Joanna Nadin

My Review

When I started reading this book, it wasn't hard to get into, and even though its a good thing, at first I thought "this is going to be a light read. It will take me a few days to finish"......

I thought the story-line seemed quite similar to various other books I'v read, but paradise had a uniqueness about it that I couldn't help but love. It was not a particularly hard read, but it was defiantly not a light read either! And it didn't take me a few days to finish, I was so captivated by the story, and when it did reach the end, I read it a page a night, to savour this awesome read!

Billie. Billie. Where do I start?! I absolutly LOVE Billie. She's the type of character that grows on you and she defiantly grew on me! I cannot praise the author enough for creating such a brilliant character!

The story was written in switch-over narratives. Some by Billie, and some by....a younger version of Billies.....Mum. I LOVED this idea, how did the author come up with it?! It kept the book fresh and added even more to the brilliant story-line. Some of the younger mums narratives were told in 2nd person, rather than first aswell.

This book is beautifully written and is such a unique, compelling book. I nearly started crying! There were so many twists and turns in the plot, I got told off the whole week for "reading when I wasn't supposed to" (how could you not be supposed to read?!) I read till 12:00pm, and I didn't even realise it!

There were so many characters, with such unique personalities, that I got to know each and every-one, even if they didn't narrate the story at all! I completely recommend Paradise, don't miss out on this amazing book!

This is the 5th book in the fantastic Gallagher Girls series and is released 20th March 2012!! I just read Heist Society and it was such an amazing book and I am planning to start the Gallagher girls series soon, which everybody has told me is brilliant!

My Review

How can you not love a story like this?! The synopses left me wondering, Who is Amanda? Who is Dani? and my biggest question....How do there "lives collide?".......

Instantly, I loved Dani. Her narratives were funny, even though the situation was far from it. She was a well-developed character and through-out the story, she kept me hooked and my eye's were literally glued to the page. Amanda though, was a different story.....

I though I got the impression from the synopses, there would be a switch-over in narratives from Dani to Amanda,...I was so far from the truth! And even though I am literally bursting, I cannot tell you the ultimate spoiler. The first chapter was however told through the voice of Amanda, but after that......(my lips...are sealed!)

I've never read a teenage novel with the story line of heart transplant, the author kept the topic serious in a sense I felt sorry for Dani, but she also kept it enjoyable. At first, It was hard to get into this book. I honestly have no idea why, the first chapter was brilliant, but after that the next few chapters seemed a bit uneventful, but then....the story really took off!

I enjoyed it thoroughly and every night when I started reading, I felt like I was sitting down and talking to my best friend :-)

Some chapters were narrated by Amanda's brother Tyler, he is not particularly the type of boy that teachers look at and think "trouble" but at home, he usually just locks himself in his bedroom. The first chapter he narrated was quite confusing, as it was quite a sudden out-of-the-blue switch-over, for a while I thought Tyler was Dani! (yes, thats how clever I am!) But gradually, I got to know Tyler a lot more and was different than I thought he would be initially.

I absoloutly loved this book! I was so depressed when I finished it, I have still not started a new book yet!

How does it feel being the youngest of your 2 Sisters, Lauren and Shelby?

Well, I don't really think about it. Lauren is such a nice, typical big-sister and it makes me feel like I'm lucky to be the youngest. But Shelby.....she doesn't really seem like a sister. She used to be really mean to me when Lauren wasn't here, but now Lauren is here, she just usually stays away from us. I do love Shelby, but sometimes I prefer Lauren because I don't think Shelby likes me.....

Lauren was not always a member of your family, you had never seen nor knew you had another sister, how did you adjust to the change?

Lauren is awesome!! I love her, even though I have known Shelby for my whole life (and I haven't known Lauren for as long) Lauren seems like she has been here all my life.

How would people describe you?

Um,...... probably as quite shy and quiet.

You have gone through lodes of things, that people your age would most likely never go on! (i.e um, getting kidnapped?!) how does it feel?

SCARY.SCARY.SCARY. I have never been so scared in my life. Hopefully I won't have to do it again, I am lot more nervous than I used to be, and even though I trust Lauren 100%, I get so scared, I just wonder, after all that's happened already, what will happen next?...

Lastly, What do you think all your family are thinking right now? (WARNING: THIS CONTAINS A MAJOR SPOILER!)

I know what I am thinking. I feel sad, lonely and I keep on getting bad nightmares and a big, bad feeling in my gut. I wish so much Shelby hadn't died, however moody or bad-tempered she was, I miss her so much. I know what everyone else is thinking, Mom is acting all strange and I don't think she will ever be the same again. And Lauren......must be feeling like me, a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE sister, even though it wasn't her fault.

My Review

When I picked up this book, the first thing I thought was; "if the synopses is this good.... imagine what the story will be like!" And,....it proved me right!....

I read Entangled by Cat Clarke a few weeks ago which was amazing, however I thought that even though the two plots (Torn and Entangled's) sounded completely different, initially I thought that the two books might be quite similar.

The main character narrating the story, Alice, was quite shy and her personality grew more and more distinctive throughout the book, which is another thing I loved. Its told in a way I haven't read for a long time; the first few chapters were in the present tense, but the next several were told in a flashback which also added to the books awesomeness,..I loved it! :-) After the flashback, it switched back to the present tense and surprsingly, it took me about 3 seconds to get back into the mood! Usually when a book is written like that, a) the flashaback is only for a chapter if that and B) It usually takes me absolutely ages to get back into the mood....but it was really easy to get back into the setting when the flashback section ended.

Torn was so easy to enjoy, every time I opened the book, only meaning to read a few pages before school, I found myself arguing with my mum every morning;...."come on, I just need to finish this page!" (Is it just me who thinks books should come before education?! ;-)

Like I (depressingly) mentioned in another book review, I like books with a realistic tragedy ..I just find them so brilliant, sad and I can relate to the characters so easily. Which brings me onto....the books ending.

*OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG*

Thats what I describe it as! Usually, when on the front of a book it says "you'll cry so hard etc..." I have probably only cried twice when reading a book.....now, make that three! I am going to stop there....I'm defiantly, somewhere, going to ruin the books ending for you! :-)

If I had to describe this book in 3 words it would be haunting, tragic (sad x1000) and defiantly.., unforgettable.

Over the past few days, I have been describing this book in so much detail to everyone, gushing about how amazing it is, that now they can't read because I'v told them all the spoilers!

I completely recommend this book, this has been one of the most striking and un-forgettable books I have ever read.

Hiya Beth! *waves*

Why did you decide to set up a blog?

My reviewing 'career' started over at Chicklish in October 2011 and I was inpired to start my own blog because I wanted something that would be personal and special to me. I wanted to share my love for reading and encourage others to enjoy it as well, and my friends rarely want to listen to me rant on about a good book so I thought a blog would be a great place for me to 'shout out!' Another reason is because I didn't read a lot in 2011 (yes, I know, how awful!) which I really regret so I thought a book review blog would be the perfect solution. As much as I hope it will encourage others, it will also encourage me to read more in order to write reviews consistently for the blog.

Who are some of your favourite authors and books?
I don't have a favourite author (there are too many good writers out there but hey, I'm not complaining!) but I enjoy reading books by Cathy Cassidy, Sophia Bennett, Cathy Hopkins, Jodi Picoult, Stephenie Meyer, Sophie McKenzie and Chris Higgins. My favourite book right now is Someone Else's Life by Katie Dale (you can read the review HERE). I think everyone should read it, it is so gripping and wonderfully poignant. Other books that are also high on my list include: Sister, Missing by Sophie McKenzie Threads by Sophia Bennett, Angel Cake by Cathy Cassidy, The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han and I Love, Aubrey by Suzanne LaFleur.

What are your ambitions for your blog?
I hope that A Reading Daydreamer will get bigger and better! I would like to reach out to a wider audience and get more followers. I know it probably won't get that big but I'll be happy if people enjoy reading my reviews and anything else I have to say on my blog. I hope that ARD will continue for many years and that it becomes a place where book-lovers like to visit and I promise to arrange more interviews/guest posts, write more reviews and discussions just to make the blog more interesting for everyone!

What is the hardest thing when writing a book review on your blog?
Sometimes it's really hard trying not to include spoilers. Occassionally, there's a really good bit in a book that I just want to gush about, but I have to restrain myself so that I don't ruin it for people who potentially want to read it! Another thing is trying to limit the length of the review. For some books, I would have loved to go on and on about how good they were but I have to remind myself that people don't want to read a full-length essay. I'm still trying to find ways to help me make my reviews both brief(-ish) and informative.

Do any particular book characters remind you of yourself?
Hmm... not in particular but I think I'm like a mix of Cherry Costello and Coco Tanberry from Cathy Cassidy's Chocolate Box Girls series. Like Cherry, I love dreaming and using my imagination but only for daydreaming and writing purposes though: things don't get out of control for me unlike Cherry! I also love animals like Coco, and dream of becoming a vet when I am older.

What is the best thing and the worst thing about book blogging?
The best thing is probably getting to share my thoughts on books and that people actually read what I think! Reviewing is something I enjoy personally but when people leave nice comments, it really gives me that sense of satisfaction. It also makes me read faster which means I can read more books in a shorter time than I would have before. I've also had the chance to get to know other wonderful book bloggers who share my passion for reading! The worst thing is that it takes up quite a lot of time. Every time I log into Blogger, I try to make the blog a little nicer to make it more appealing and writing reviews can be quite time-consuming!

If you ever wrote a book someday, what genre would you write about?
I would definitely write a Teenage/Young Adult book, maybe something like Someone Else's Life. I love reading books that catch your emotions and that reflects in my writing because I always find that I can write about sad situations much better because I can describe sad, painful emotions more effectively. I recently wrote a story about an earthquake for an English assignment and my teacher commented that it was 'powerfully evocative'. I would also add in some romance and adventure because I love books that have a perfect balance of them.

Are there books in particular you read and wish you enjoyed more?
I've always wished I could enjoy the Harry Potter books more. I tried reading the first one but I just couldn't seem to get into it which is ironic, considering HP is the world's favourite series. I might try it again some time because I know they must be very good... Another book is Delirium by Lauren Oliver. I've taken it out of the library twice now but I never read it to the end. The story-line is fantastic and original but it just wasn't really that good for me, I didn't get that feeling where I wanted to read on which is a shame because I thought it would be a book I'd love.

What is your favourite book blog meme? (i.e: In My Mailbox, Weekly Wish-list etc...)
I only take part in In My Mailbox because I don't think I have enough time to fit in other memes during the week. I think it's one of the best memes around so that's why I decided to take part in it for ARD. I love how it's so flexible and you can really make it unique to you. It also takes away the pressure that I have to review every book I read because at least I gave the book a mention.

How long have you been blogging?
I've been blogging since the 4th of January 2012 so it's been less than a month! Hopefully A Reading Daydreamer will continue to grow!

QUICK Q'S?:

Romance or adventure: Hmm... both, I love books that have a nice balance between them. I would probably be sick by the time I finished a book that focused on romance and breathless if it was just adventure!
E-book or paperback/hardback: Paperback/hardbook, nothing beats a proper book with proper pages that you can turn!

Must reads for this month...

Why (oh, why?!) do there have to be so many amazing books in the world! (or-to be more specific-In Waterstones!) For the past couple of weeks now, book-shopping (my favourite sport ;) has been the same-me, looking at shelves of brilliant books that looked fantastic, my mum, telling me she I'm "exaggerating" when I say I need that book, but after I have faced the horrible truth, that I can NOT have every book on the teenage-section shelf, book-shopping is the best thing in the world :-) And I think all book-lovers feel the same, there are some amazing books out at the moment, and so I thought I would share my top 5 wishlist reads for this month.....

.How did you gain so much knowledge on bones?

My great aunt, Tempe is a famous forensic anthropologist,who studies bones and dead bodies for a living and so I learnt lots of what I know from her books. :)

.You used to live a normal life, now you are living on a secluded Island, how did you adapt to the new life-style?

The reason I had to move was because my mother died, and so I am happy I am at least living with another member of family. I do like my new life and have made some great friends. I would not have gone on all the amazing (and crazy!) adventures if I hadn't!

How would describe your 3 best friends-Hiram (Hi), Ben and Shelton?

Hi is very sarcastic! He is fun to be with and has a great sense of humour. Ben can get in terrible (scary!) bad moods! But when he is in a good move, he is a great friend even though he can loose his tempter really easily! Shelton is also a good friend, and he can also pick locks which came in useful aswell!

I have not read your second adventure yet, but from reading the first one, a boy called Justine has a slight crush on you. Do you think, after all you went through you will still trust yourself falling in love?

I don't know. After everything that happened, including that, at the moment I haven't had such a good love history I really dont know! But Justine is a really nice guy.

How would YOU describe yourself? And how would others?

I would describe myself as quiet and hard-working, but most people would call me a freaky, brainy-ac!

A group of us (me and my friends-Hi, Ben and Shelton) all came to the Island because our parents worked there and so we all stick together at school.

Lastly, how to do you feel about Kit, your farther who he never knew had a kid and you had never met him before?

I think Kit and me do get along, it just because he does spend a lot of the time with me because he is always at work. However he does try, I see him more of a guardian not a father.

Virals by Kathy Reichs

Tory Brennan is as fascinated by bones and dead bodies as her famous aunt, forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan. However, living off a secluded Island off Charleston in South Carolina, she does not have much opportunity to put her knowledge to the test. Until she and her group of technophile friends stumble across a shallow grave of a girl who has been missing for over thirty years.

With a cold case murder suddenly hot, Tory realises that they are involved in something fatally dangerous. On the run from forces they dont understand, she and her friends have only themselves to fall back on.

It soon becomes clear that the Island is home to a secret that has driven men to kill once. And will drive them to kill again....

My Review

I went into the bookshop and I picked this book up and was instantly begging my mum to get this book (yes, I was still victim to "I-over-spent-way-to-much-Christmas-book-money." :-) It looked amazing and even though at first, it took me a few minutes to decode the synopses (!!) I'm so glad I did read this book, how I actually missed out such a brilliant book before, Ill never know!

At first I wasn't sure though, would this book be VERY (!) complicated? Was it going to be hard to relate to the characters? And the biggest question of all, was this going to be my first sci-fi book?!-I haven't ever read a proper sci-fi book, and I wasn't rushing to start one either. But im so gad I did, the author wrapped together several genre's, adventure and romance (my favourites!), Murder mystery (my second favourite!) and hints of sci-fi.....

This book was narrated through the fascinating voice of Tory Brennan. Her narratives were funny, raw and down-to-earth. The thing I loved most about this book was the setting and the way, sometimes, topics such as, romance and loosing a mother were bought up, are such realistic things that teenagers do go through, whereas some narratives were more action. It made the book thoroughly enjoyable to read.

I think the night I started this book, I kept on putting it down and started admiring the front-cover!.....yes, really (!!) The writing was amazing and kept the book adrenalin filled and SO unique. The story-line was so brilliant, it was hard to believe!

This might sound like I'm really depressed (and a bit freaky!) but I really like books written about.....a death. Ok, not specifically about deaths but stories based on realistic tragedy's I always find are adrenalin filled and seem real. (To make me a bit less horrible and depressed (!!)-Please comment, do you like realistic type books?)

Sometimes I found because it was so thrilling, so much was going, on so I had to sometimes stop reading and remind myself parts of the stories that first had been bought up at the beginning, and were now being mentioned again at the end.

When it reached the end of the book, I was so annoyed and sad I'd finished it! I didn't even realise it was over until I turned to the last page it was so captivating!! A second book has just been released, Seizure.....

"Muuum!..."

An amazing, AMAZING book! I cant gush enough to you!!

Iv always wanted to do a discussion post and I planned to do one in January and so...here it is! :-) I decided to do this discussion post on books v. E-books, enjoy! :)

Kindles

I got bought a kindle a couple of birthdays ago and my mum has used it more than me. I was really excited
when I got it, and I am still excited now because every time I have nothing to read, I know that I have a mini book-shop in the corner of my bedroom! All in a small, awesome device! But when I do have nothing to read, I still don't use the Kindle. I find it so much harder to read on the Kindle, and I dont know why because it is made to be so easy to read, there's no bright lights and it is so easy to download and physically read the book, but I still find it really hard to concentrate on the story.

Kindle Pro's:

.Portable

.Easy to use

.Wide range of books to choose from

.Not to big and not to small

Kindle Con's:

.Hard to read in the dark

.Now IPad's and similar devices have an on-line

reader and so Kindle's could begin to get less popular

.Not touch screen

This might sound a bit cheesy (ok, very!) but I love going into a bookshop and looking through the actual physical books, and looking at the covers and so Kindle's can sometimes take away that experience.

Audio books

I don't think I'v ever read (well, heard!) an audio book in my life except for at school! Sometimes there can be background noises to create the book atmosphere, some people might find it helpful but I like to imagine what the books atmosphere will be like, and so I think I will find it hard listening an audio-book. I don't think I will take in the story as much as I would when reading a paperback/hardback, it will be especially hard if I miss a bit, as instead of just simply flicking back the page's to remind myself what was happening, I would have to re-wind a CD.

The noise, for me would also be a problem, as I have a 3-year old sister. I like reading books in the evening in bed, (when my sisters asleep) and so the noise could wake her up, and it would be hard to read late at night.

I just couldn't imagine myself sitting up in bed with a CD player next to me, and listening to a book. I could imagine myself fidgeting and in the end probably turning it off and grabbing one of my old favourite paperbacks and start happily re-reading that instead. BUT!-I am open for persuasion! What do YOU like about Audio books? Do you think I should give one a try?....

Because I do usually fall victim to bad care-sickness on long journeys (because I am usually reading an awesome book and can't bare to stop reading!) and it will be a helpful thing to have.

I saw this book a couple of weeks ago in the bookshop, being victim of "over-spending christmas book money" :-) last weekend I didn't get to read it so I was so excited when I received it!

I know it is in a series and so I am looking forward to getting stuck into all the Camden Town Tale books!

Cold hands warm heart by Jill Wolfson

Out of all three books, I think this has to be the one I want to read most!

It looks amazing and after reading the synopses, the story-line looks like

its something I haven't read about at all so I am really really (x100!)excited I get to read it!

Schools started again :(, well, officially it started last week on Wednesday but it was only 3 days back so I call them my "scoliday" days, the three days were I go to school and it still seems like its the holidays because the first few days are mostly just settling back in. *Sigh,* Good days. Heist Society by Ally Carter-A review

My Review

After seeing there was actually a book told from the view-point of a teenage theif, I needed to get this book! And as I got further in the book, I'm so glad I did....

Some (some) of my predications were proved right, it wasn't a particularly hard read, but it was so thrilling and adrenalin filled, I wouldn't call it a particularly light read either. This book is told from the perspective of 15 year old Kat (Katarina) Bishop, daughter of Bobby Bishop, a famous.... thief. I liked Katarina's narratives because they were usually fun, and even though, Im not a thief (or am I?.....) I could completely relate to her, mainly because of her funny, casual voice, in such an out-the-ordinary situation.

Some of my favourites bits, if I tell you about, will almost defiantly contain spoilers and so I cant gush to you enough....I loved this book! The style of writing was fantastic and well-written, the other characters personalties I got to know the minute they were introduced in the book, the story-line was unique, I loved it! *Sorry about the gushing!*

Even though I did truly enjoy this book, sometimes it felt like characters were introduced with no explanation, and I found myself having to skip back some pages to re-remind myself of what was going on because sometimes I didn't know were she was, or if a new character was being introduced. However every time I picked up this book I was in awe, hurriedly turning pages, my eye's glued to the book and so I think those astonishing parts made up for it!

This book was a captivating read and I am very happy there is a second book in the series (Uncommon Criminals) Ally Carter wrapped together, adventure, romance and thriller into one books, and I loved it!

by the synopses! So I am really excited to start this book! I had to choose

and so hopefully on my next trip........(hint, hint mum!)

Heist Society by Ally Carter

Iv been wanting to read this book for ages! And so the minute

I walked into the bookshop I ran towards Heist Society! (nearly getting

myself into a book fight with another girl :) I'm almost finished it and

it has been brilliant! I cant wait to post a review soon!

Thats what I bought with most of my book vouchers! I have to wait another year to go on another "book spree" (!!) and so far I have REALLY enjoyed all of the books I got with my Christmas vouchers!

Faves of twenty-eleven #3 - The Covers

This is a very late post (better than never?!) but here are...

The best book covers of 2011! When nearing the end of 2011, I took part in an end of year meme were I awarded the best books and the best book characters, now, even though im a little late (!!) Im going to be selecting my top 10 book covers of 2011.... (not in order) So here are .....my top book covers of 2011!...

I love the models! Usually I don't like book covers with
real people on, but I think this cover looks awesome!

My favourite thing about this cover, is the unusual
and eye-catching cover design! It is decorated really uniquely and
I this was one of the main things that drew me to this book!

I love this cover because it is simple, but VERY
unusual and drawing.

Similar to the cover above (the Sky is everywhere)
it is simple but defiantly makes me want to read it!

There are so many things going on in this cover,
I love the idea and I haven't seen any other cover like it!

This is a beautiful front cover and drew me to
the book straight away!

There are so many versions of this cover
but this one if defiantly my favorite! Its pretty
and girly and I LOVE IT!

I love this cover because there are real-
life elements to it but the decoration is
really fairy-tale like and I really like it!

The synopses and story-line can be told
(in a good way!) through the front cover, I love
the IDEA of it and it really drew me to the book.

I think this a good example of DO judge
a book by its cover!! The font of the title
is really unique and drawing, so is the WHOLE
front cover! This front cover has to be on of my
all time favorites!

Meg Rosoff: Writers secret revealed......

Sure, finding a voice is difficult. Sure, getting published can be a real trial. Sure, all the stumping around for publicity (or worse, lack thereof) can wear you out.
But at least the writing gets easier after the first few books, right?
Pshaw.
Not just any writer would tell you this (it’s an admission of weakness, hopelessness, pessimism and despair and I SO want you to feel it too, gentle reader) but the writing — in actual fact — gets harder. And harder. And harder. With each book you write.
HOW CAN THIS BE? Is there no God?? (well no, obviously, but that was book five).
Surely one’s skills improve, structure falls into place, the same mistakes can be avoided? SURELY?
Oh tut tut. You know so very little about life.
If you think the first one’s hard to write, wait till you get to number six.
The tragedy is, that in order to write a book properly, you need to be in touch with the deepest parts of yourself. You need to be on a constant voyage of discovery, mining your dark places, thinking things through that have bothered you for a lifetime.
So. Think about what happens when a miner brings up the first layer of diamond. He/she then goes on to the next layer down. And is that next layer comprised of more and bigger diamonds just lying around in a soft bed of sand waiting to be plucked and polished?
I don’t think so.
That next layer down is deeper and darker with less oxygen and more chance of catastrophic collapse. The canaries start choking to death. The candles flicker and gas leaks in, threatening explosion.
Yup, that’s what the sixth book is like. And the seventh? Well. That one will, no doubt, be even worse.
Still.
It beats having a real job. Having done that for twenty five years, you can trust me.
Really, you can.

This story looks,....amazing!! All the reviews have been stunning and the title, cover and story-line all look awesome as well!

Recently I read 13 reasons why by Jay Asher and I absolutely loved it! And on nearly all of the reviews I read, the reviewer said if you liked 13 reasons why, you'd love this book! And I think it looks amazing!

  The top 3 books I read in 2011 (not in order)

Sister,Missing by Sophie McKenzie- Its two years after the events of Girl,Missing and life isn't getting easier for sixteen-year old Lauren, as exam pressure and a family tragedy take their toll. Lauren's birth mother takes her and her two sisters on holiday in hope that some time together will help, but a few days into the holiday one of the sisters disappears and, under circumstances very similar to those in which Lauren was taken years before. Can Lauren saver her sister and stop the nightmare happening all over again?
This book was amazing! It is the sequel to Girl,Missing and luckily,....there's a third book coming out soon! Quote from my review: "I was literally crying and kicking myself for finishing it so quickly"

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins- Winning will make you famous.

This was one of the best books I'v ever read, the story-line was so original-defiantly in my top 3 favourite books of ALL TIME!! Quote from my review:  "NO CLUE how the author came up with such gripping, awesome ideas"

This was one of the most gripping and adrenalin filled books Iv ever read!.... In one word-Awesome.(!!)

~~Happy new year, guys!~~ Happy pre-new year!!! I hope you all had a great 2011! I think nearly all of the books I read this year were some of the best Iv ever read! And now to get 2012 started in a bookish/blogish style, here are my 2012 book and blogger resolutions!

My top 3 resolutions as a blogger.....

1. Do not fall victim to a "bloggers slump" again! - A couple of weeks ago I fell victim to "book bloggers slump" The slump is were book bloggers (or any other bloggers) have nothing to post about and it seems like you HAVE to blog not that you want to, but the thing is when I had it, I REALLY wanted to post! I just didn't seem to know what to post about, it was a horrible experience and hopefully in 2012, I wont ever get in again!

2. Get more readers- Since Page-turner is quite a new book blog, I am happy with the progress my little blog has made so far! I am also so grateful to all my readers and followers, thank you so much! Hopefully in the new year I will also get a few more readers and my blog will grow even more!

3. Take part in more regular meme's - I dont take part in many meme's at the moment, whenever I try and start a meme, I seem to not do it consistently but..... (dramatic pause!)... that is all....ABOUT TO CHANGE! (dun dun duh!) :-) I want to take part in more weekly meme's as there is an awesome range to choose from!

My top 3 resolutions as a reader.....

1. Read a "sci-fi" (science fiction) book- I think sci-fi is a genre a don't usually read, even though I dont usually get drawn to this genre, in 2012 I want to try a few science fiction novels and see if I like them, and hopefully I will! (What are YOUR sci-fi reccomendations?!)

2. Fight the urge to judge a book by its cover! - Usually I judge a book by its cover, without even realising it! And I am probably missing out on some awesome books so hopefully,... new year, no old habits!

3. Complete a 2012 book challenge! - Uhh! Even when I wasn't blogging (sad days) I always tried to do book challenges, and I dont think I completed one! I set up my own 2012 book challenge on Page-turner, which will hopefully give me the boost I need to complete one! This resolution also can cross blogging, hopefully I will complete at least 1 at the end of 2012!

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers several cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker--his classmate and crush--who committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list. And what he does find out, changes his life.

My Review

Suicide is a hard topic to write about, to keep the sensitivity and tragicness of the topic hooking to read about. The author, Jay Asher, had to make the topic of suicide a STORY. And I think he wrote one of the best stories of 2011.

This book is told mainly from the voice of Clay (Jenson) a teenage boy who went to the same school as a girl called Hannah. They didn't just got to the same school, they were in the same class and she was his long-lasting crush. Even though the main narrative was Clays, when he was listning to the tapes Hannah recorded the night before she died, SHE was narrating and so some people might say it was split into two narratives. But unlike usually when a book is told from the view-points of two people, it is split into chapters (i,e: chapter 1: Hannah, Chapter 2: Clay, Chapter 3: Hannah etc...) but in 13 reaons why, two narrtives were in the same Chapter, even though the main narrative was Clay. For example:

"Hello boys and girls. Hannah Baker here. Live and in stereo". (Hannah)

I dont believe it. (Clay)

"No return engagments. No encore. And this time, absoloutly no requests". (Hannah)

No. I cant believe it. Hannah Baker killed herself. (Clay)

And this went on for most of the book, and even though sometimes it got confusing, I liked the unusual style of writing, which added to the equally unsual, but brilliant story-line. This book was amazing, but slightly haunting as some parts were told from the view of someone who was dead.

I think this book was one of the most un-predictable stories I have ever read, and its a type of story were you have no idea how the author came up with the characters, main story-line or style of writing, I couldn't imagine writing anything like this in a million years! It was a very sad and haunting story, but it stilled stayed enjoyable to read.

I couldn't put this book down, it was captivating and it seemed like something that could happen in reality. I havn't talked much about the actual characters themselves though. Clay, is not the typical teenage boy I though the author would picture or write about. Clay was sensitive and from the minute this book started, I really liked Clay. Hannah committed suicide, and the night before she did, she recorded 13 tapes of the reasons she died, she said that if you recieved them, you were one of the reasons she died. I had no idea why Clay recieved the tapes, but when he got to his tape (Hannah explaining why it was him) there was a twist in the strong, distinctive story-line keeping it fresh and even more captivating (can I say eye-glueing?)

This is defiantly a book I will re-read again, I enjoyed it thoroughly and any criticism I have is VERY very minor.

1. 3 favourite female characters
I have changed this question a bit because it was to hard to pick just one! So my 3 favourite female characters are...
Jazz in My sister lives on the mantelpiece, even though she wasn't the main character, you could still tell what she was like and what she was feeling and so I loved her personality.
Katniss from The Hunger Games. The Hunger Games was such an amazing book that you couldn't help but love the main character (Katniss) even though obviously I'v never been through what Katniss went through (and hopefully I never will!!) I could still relate to her easily.
Celia from The truth about Celia Frost. I loved this book and I also loved Celia! The author made her reactions and emotions to everything so vivid that it was again, easy to relate to her. Whenever she narrated in the book (the book was split into a few narrations) I got got to love her as a character even more.

2. Favourite male character
Lol I can think of so many female characters but only one boy :-) Im joking but of its true! I read mainly books from the perspective of females and I don't know why. I think its because I can relate to them more but then again, I dont purposely pick up books from the view-point of a female. weird. Anyway, back to the awards! My favourite male character is....... Alton from The Cardturner! I think Alton was a funny, typical teenage boy character and I really liked the story as well, so overall I REALLY liked the book!

3. Best couple
It has to be Peter and Katniss from, The Hunger Games! Even though the fact that they were a couple wasn't very clear, it was really romantic and at the end of all three books ---" Wait, if I keep talking I'm going to completely ruin the books for you!

4. Best character twist (who I loved, then hates or vice versa)
That again, has to be Peter from The Hunger Games! At the begining of the book, I didn't really have an opinion on him, because he wasn't really mentioned and even when he did first come into the book, he still seemed like a mystery to me but then (this is so hard not to include spoilers!) I began to dislike him, and I thought he was betraying Katniss (my favourite character, how dare he!!) but then I grew to really like him, but was a bit wary of him as well. But half-way through I began to really like and by the end, I really really liked him, mostly because him and Katniss were now "allies" (just read the book!)

5. Character who broke my heart the most
Rue from the Hunger Games!, (ANOTHER hunger games award!) I still choke-up when I think of her, *sob* I would describe her more but it a) wouldn't do her justice and b) I'd probably end up ruining the book for you!

6. Favourite sibling relationship award
Goes to Lauren and Madison in Sister, Missing by Sophie McKenzie! The story-line, you could say, was based on their relationship and I loved it! There other sister Shelby, Lauren is not close to, in fact, they'v disliked each other from the day they met, but the end of the book is also based on there relationship a little bit. So this book was amazing, and also a big sisterly relationship triangle!

7. Favourite best friends/friendship award

Goes to Xander and Cassia in Matched (and Crossed - book 2) If

I was Xander, I would be really angry at Cassia (for reasons, if I revealed

them, would ruin the book for you :) But even though you can tell Xander is defiantly

NOT happy about it, his reactions were kind and helpful towards Cassia, he was a

GREAT friend.

15. Best character name

Calypso Summer is all im going to say! In the book If I could fly by Jill Hucklesby, she's

the main character, and even though most people call her Carly, how cool is the name Calypso Summer?! Well, a great name for a character anyway :)

(imagine me singing it) Im posting (live!) from my grandparents house were we stay for a couple of days (Christmas day, boxing day, etc..) and the rest of the family have not come yet so I have some time to post!

Louise smiled nervously as the first customers, wrapped up tightly in coats and scarves, approached. ‘Hi there,’ she said cheerfully. ‘Have you come to see Father Christmas?’ Don’t laugh at my outfit, she prayed, and adjusted the hat that was too big for her head, making it jingle in the process.

‘No,’ said the little boy, puzzled. ‘We’ve come to see Santa.’

His parents smiled in an embarrassed way. ‘Sorry,’ whispered his mum. ‘Owen’s been watching a lot of American films.’

‘Oh, right,’ said Louise. She tried again with Owen. ‘Well, Father Christmas has a lot of names. Sometimes he’s called Santa Claus, sometimes he’s called St Nicholas.’

The time will come #1

Christmas is coming! When Christmas comes, my brother starts singing Christmas carols, it starts to snow, but then annoyingly never settles, my mum starts buying Christmas presents :) and best of all, a whole new load of books come out, and leave me staring longingly at by local bookshops window display. BUT- on Christmas, aswell as lots of brilliant new books coming out, at Christmas time I notice all the books sitting in a pile next to my bed, better known as a - need-to-read-book-pile! (i.e: The books, literally in a pile!, next to my bed that I really want to read, but haven't got round to reading them! - yet!) And so what better time than now to take part in a new book meme, all to do with your need-to-read-book-pile!....

When I did get it though, I also got some other stand-alone books that looked amazing as well. I read them and then I started a, brilliant!, but very long new series......and it lies there, today, still in the pile!

Is it in a series? - Yes, it is in a series of 4 other books, and the concluding book to the series, Hit Squad (the final 6th book) is to be released in January 2012! - All together- a series of 6 books including unreleased final book. Hi Zoe!

Were did you get the idea of starting up a blog from?

Hi Beth! I kept on seeing other blogs and thought "that looks fun to do" and my first blog was born- a simple, personal blog about my life. I didn't have many followers, but I loved the whole concept of blogging so much. It started to go downhill though and I got a bit bored of nothing much to say, so I deleted it. Then I thought most of my favourite blogs are book blogs, so I created one of my own. I didn't really have any knowledge specifically of what a "book blogger" was, but now I couldn't be happier!

What makes your blog unique?
Hmm....to be honest, everybody's blog is unique. Bookhi his colourful, friendly and hopefully welcoming. It is pretty much the same as all the others, but I hope it has something for everyone.

Why did you decide to set up a BOOK BLOG, and if you set up another blog, what would be its theme?
I think I would probably start a personal one about myself again, and see how it goes from there! It would be pretty random; what I have done, general musings, and maybe a poem or a story. When I make one, I will let you know! ;)

What do you love most about blogging?
Great question! But a hard one. I love everything about blogging! If I had to choose my favourite, it would be my readers. I love comments and read every single one with a smile on my face! I still get really excited when I receive a new follower, or an e-mail asking for a book to review (by excited I mean jumping up and down) . : D

How would you describe yourself? (and does your personality show through your blog?!)
Another brilliant question! I would describe myself as quite modest and down-to-earth, but it all depends on what mood I am in, lol! :D I am quite hard working at school (call me a nerd if you wish :P) but when it comes to maths I am lazy! I am always up for a joke, and I love making people laugh. I think my personality does show through my blog, from time to time! I like to keep my posts quite relaxed and informal, with the occasional (bad!) joke....!

What is your favourite book genre and why?
Ooh.... ahh...hmm...urghh....errm.....um...eep! This is hard! I like books with all kinds of genre's in them, my favourite tend to be ones with more than one. I love romance in books, that is essential, and action. I love the Hunger Games, Harry Potter, and adventure books. But I also love to read Luisa Plaja type books, and any kind of Chick Lit.

How long have you been blogging?
A year and a bit! Bookhi has been going for nearly a year (bloggoversary soon, whoop whoop!) but I have technically been blogging for longer. And never once regretted it!

Is it hard to write a review about a book you didn't really like?
Very. I am not very assertive, and tend to look on the bright side! :D I think the lowest rating I have given a book is 3/5, and if you think about, that is more than half way. I might have rated a book as 2/5 before, but not as a proper review, on Goodreads. I tell myself that if I ever have to review I book that hated, I would review it honestly but make sure to include some positive points! (at least, that is what I hope my reviews come across...!) I am the type of person who thinks of the other person's reaction on the other side, which has its pros and cons...

Which book character reminds you of yourself?

I think different characters drawn together remind me of myself more than just one character. Most probably bits of Hermione Granger, Pearl from My Sister Jodie, Lauren from Girl Missing and Spider from Pride and Penalties.

What is the most challenging thing about blogging?
I don't think anything is particular challenging about blogging for me...YET!! Sometimes I get behind reviews and books I have had for ages but not finished/reviewed. I am quite organised, but from time to time I am quite lazy! :D

Do you get inspiration from other book blogs?
Yep - all the time! When I am browsing a book blog, an idea pops into my head of how I could do a certain thing. Sometimes I see a meme that looks like fun, an idea for a giveaway, or a way of setting out a review. I never completely copy, but I got my feature 'Cover Crazy' from Books Are A Girl's Best Friend's 'Coverlicious'. :)

Do you ever get "bloggers block?"
I have had times when I just can't be bothered to blog or review. It only lasts for a few days though, and I soon miss it so much I have to come back to it! :) A lot of blogs lately have been having a bit of a slump, but they take a break for a while and they come back better than before!

My wish list

Earlier I posted about finding some brilliant books In my local bookshop (but coming out empty handed) And I wanted to share my top couple of Christmas half-term, wish list reads....

I think this book has been in the bookshop for a while now and every time I see it, I want it but never actually buy it! But I pointed this book out to my mum and hopefully........

Even though I had to read the back of this book at least five times to understand it a little bit, (!!) I really want to read it! It looks interesting and different and I also love the front cover!

The hunger games new book covers!

I was in my local bookshop today and I found a whole new load of books that look brilliant! (which of course, I will be posting about later!) but unfortunately, I had done all my Christmas shopping last weekend and so.... I didn't have any money to buy them :( My mum said that she had already bought me - "more books than I need and wanted" But my mum did say, I might find them under the Christmas tree on the 25th..... anyway, fingers crossed!

BUT! - Even though I came out of the book shop empty handed, some books caught my eye!....

The Hunger Games series have new book covers! I didn't realise the books were the Hunger Games at first, but when I did, I spent 15 minutes looking at them! Below are the pictures I took of them in the bookshop, so behold, the Hunger Games with there new covers! .........

It is the end of the Page-turner awards! You started voting for your favourite book out of 3 options for several genre's in October, and now, its time for the results! The voting polls are being taken off the blog in....

Page-turner Christmas update!

Merry Christmas! (even though it isn't officially christmas yet!) I'm so happy, its the soon to be the Christmas half term (our school breaks up on Tuesday , really random and suckish! :( And then on the 25th, its Christmas day! Because I haven't been posting a lot for the past couple of weeks, here is a blog update of giveaways, meme's etc... That Im going to be doing over the next couple of weeks!

.Page-turners very own... book challenge!

I have created a 2012 book challenge! It will be started next year on the new-years day (1st of January) and any body can take part, blog-owner or just someone who wants to set them self a new-years book challenge! Here are the challenge rules in advance....

.You set yourself a number of books to read by the end of the 2012.

.E-mail me your name, e-mail address, age and list of 20 books of you have set yourself to read. (e-mail me at: pageturnerby-beth@hotmail.co.uk )

.Each month (throughout 2012) e-mail me at the end of the month and tell me the books that you have read (out of the books you e-mailed me) so far. At the end of each month on Page-turner, I will reveal who is winning.

.At the end of the year (31st of December) there will be a winner of who has read the most books of the 20 they set them self to read.

.The winner will have an option of 3 prizes, which will be announced on the blog and e-mailed to the winner at the end of the year (when the challenge finishes.)

.The challenge is from the 1st of January and finishes on the 31st of December 2012.

Yes, I have nearly reached 100 posts! And to celebrate, I am going to be doing a special "100 post" post which will include, giveaways, guest post's and the one and only.... LUISA PLAJA!! Luisa Plaja, the brilliant author of swapped by a kiss and many other amazing books, and who is also the blog owner of teen book blog Chicklish, will be taking part in my 100th post special!!

Merry Christmas! To celebrate Christmas day at Page-turner I have decided to do a,.... 60 second countdown!! I am going to do a 60 second countdown for you to vote for your favourite book (out of the given options) You can only vote once within the minute. The countdown opens at 6:00pm and ends (1 minute countdown) at 6:01. To vote e-mail me your answer at: page-turnerby-beth@hotmail.co.uk within the minute (please include your name and age) The book options to vote for will appear on the sidebar today (Christmas day) but voting is only open on THE 28TH OF OCTOBER-6:00 - 6:01.

BUT!!.... THERE IS ALSO A TWIST....

Whoever voted for the book that won, will be entered in a prize draw. And so the next day, I will pick randomly a winner out of the people in the prize draw and they will win the book that won the vote (of the 60 second countdown Yes, I know I could just do a giveaway, it would be near the same thing!! But I wanted to add some Christmas suspense :)

Thats the main things I'v got lined up so far! With reviews and book news as well :) I will be putting up the Page-turner Christmas logo and the Page-turner book challenge logo etc.. on the sidebar of the blog. :)

Hello Page-turner! its good to be back ;) I am SO sorry for not posting for so long but I'm back with news..... The page-turner awards results are in! You have been voting for your favourite book out of three options for the genres, Romance, Best cliffhangers, Most tragic book and adventure.
